Do’s and Don’ts to Make Your Summer Solstice Sunnier
By Terri Negron
In honor of summer solstice it’s time to talk about our windows and doors. Summer solstice is the height of the yang cycle and the beginning of the yin. This means the power of nature is at its peak so we’ll be looking outside more and more. Here are some dos and don’ts regarding those areas:
Let’s walk over to the windows. What do you see? How do you feel? Can you get to the window at all? Are you running into the piece of furniture that’s blocking it? Did I use that dreaded word BLOCK? OH NOOOOOOOO we can’t have that, which brings me to my first tip …
1. DO NOT block any windows or doors with furniture. Chi’ enters through the main entrance of your home and it exits through windows and doors. This is a good thing. We want it to come in, have a good time and then like any good guest … leave. However, if furniture is blocking those areas, the chi stays and gets stagnant. Ever have anyone stick around too long? Conversation gets boring and eyes droop. Let’s imagine the Chi’ as a happy little marshmallow. It’s great when it’s fresh but when stale, it’s either hard as a rock or if left out too long, it can melt and turn into something sticky or in this case STUCKY. Which brings me to my next tip under our list of don’ts.
2. We don’t want to feel stuck but on the other hand we don’t want the opposite effect either. When you go near your doors and windows do you notice cracks? Are there leaks? Leaks can signify your money going out the window! In other words, the Chi’ is coming in and escaping way too fast. You didn’t even have time for that nice chat and a cup of tea and it’s OUTTA THERE! Here’s what you do, fix them. Do not allow any leaks or cracks near your windows and doors. Oh yes, it’s just that simple. Spackle can be your friend.
3. Back to the doors and windows. Do not have any doors or windows that cannot open and close. Make sure all latches work. They must be operable and cannot be painted shut or be stuck in any way.
Now that I’ve mentioned three don’ts let’s talk about what’s good to DO:
1. Venture back to those beautiful windows, now that you’ve moved that entertainment center, picture this … a sun catcher. Yep, something as inexpensive and beautiful as a sun catcher can do just what we’ve been wanting to do… enhance our Chi’!
2. Location, location, location. Go to your East window and add in a soft round leafed plant. This will enhance your health. You can also hang your sun catcher in the east window and have the same effect. The great thing about plants and sun catchers is they do not block your Chi’.
3. Do you have a red thumb? Not so much green, but red, as in you kill your plants? Maybe you don’t like sun catchers well here’s another idea for you. You can try wind chimes outside your windows and again get that Chi’ to where it should be.
As the song goes, “let the
sunshine in”. This is what I hope for you plus all the health and happiness
you deserve.

17 years ago I began my quest to not only study but practice Feng Shui. Early in my career, I began by doing lunch seminars in a corporate setting. Immediately I could see the positive affect Feng Shui had on the lives I had touched. No affect was more positive though, than me finding my soul mate through Feng Shui. Just a few minor changes in Chi' and he came to me.
Currently, I work across the
country providing online and in home consultations, corporate seminars,
hosting Feng Shui parties, and offering gift certificates all tailored
specifically for you, the client.
